The Friends of Pearland Westside Library: Who Are We?
We are a non-profit organization created for and dedicated to support Pearland’s Westside Library. We began as a small group back in May of 2008 committed to the idea of bringing a library to the west side of Pearland. The Friends had their first official meeting in September of 2010, where initial goals were discussed and a mission statement was formally created. The name of our group (“The Friends of Pearland Westside Library”) was officially adopted in 2011. We began the application process for becoming a 501(c)(3) organization and approval was granted in February of 2012. The Pearland Westside library, currently located on Business Center Drive, opened in May of 2013. As of today, the Friends have over 80 members.
The Friends of Pearland Westside Library is dedicated to support the mission of the Brazoria County Library System to serve the educational, informational and recreational needs of all library patrons. We are committed to enhance the value of Pearland Westside Library to the community through sponsorship and funding of programs, materials, and services.
For many years, the Tom Reid Library on Liberty Drive was able to meet the needs of Pearland citizens. As the city of Pearland expanded and growth increased on the west side of Pearland near the 288 corridor, the need for a second library became clear. The Friends have supported the Pearland Westside Library in its growth from a closet sized room in the Westside Event Center, to a store-front library on Business Center Drive, to the development of the new stand-alone library on Shadow Creek Parkway with an anticipated opening date in January, 2022.
Your membership will put you on our mailing list for updates, meetings, and volunteer opportunities.
